In the tag title bout, no-one at ringside, including perennially clueless Bob Beach, apparently knew this. Bruiser and Crusher won the first fall with a stomach claw on Krupp in 7 or 8 minutes right in the middle. Then the announcement, "Winners and still champions, Dick the Bruiser and the Crusher!" The crowd were cheering, but at the same time had the "Is that it?" look. So as some started to file out, Dick had to go over, first to the announcer with "Hey, wait a minute" very audibly, a short conference, then to to the table corner and inform the ringside crew it was indeed 2/3 falls, with folks scrambling back to their seats.)

Gomez had the sleeper, Ox the Heart Punch. Starr interfered, Ox KO'd Pepper from behind and pinned him. I think Ox MIGHT have used the heart punch earlier. It was stupid. So Strangler and Starr put the boots to Pepper after the bout, Ox tried to tell them enough, so they attack Ox and laid him out as well. Ox was able to get up and help Pepper back. Ox later did a run in on the main event to save Bruiser from Starr and Strangler double teaming Dick, and turned babyface.

He stood in the corner and couldn't get the tape to pull back after picking away at it for about a minute, so he bites the tape off. He tags in, uses it, then in mid ring just openly passes it to his partner, who uses it, who passes it back to Kent on the apron right before Jimmy takes a post shot. No attempt was made at all to conceal it.

It was a flat finish, but "looked like" it might have been legit. Sam zipped his ear for good effect. The bout itself was as lousy as it looks on screen. Absolutely horrible with NO real action. Sheik and Dick made NO contact, you can fill in the blanks. WWA tag team title Bounty Hunters (c) DDQ Wilbur Snyder/Bobo Brazil in a barn burner. WWA title Strangler (c) W/DQ Ox Baker Moose Cholak W/Kenny Dillinger Steve Regal W/Lou Klein Bold Eagle W/Yellow Belly Buck Robley, the real one who did a one off here. Probably came up with Dillinger, who was probably visiting for the holidays. Paul Christy W/Ricky Hamilton Bill Shirk (Escape Artist)/Spike Huber W/Johnny Starr/Jimmy Kent Shirk, a local Radio Station owner and escape artist, was in a straight jacket, Kent in handcuffs. Shirk got out of the jacket before Kent could shed the cuffs. It was almost as exciting as the main. And in the big special event, the Sheik just inched past Prince Pullins! Prince came out first and try as Dick did to kill him off, Pullins was just loved by Indianapolis. This was an unscheduled TV bout, and when Sheik came out, they didn't boo, it was a collective "NO"! It's something I'd never heard before or since. And Sheik didn't let them down, he slaughtered Pullins. I did a write up for this that appeared, doctored up, in an Apter mag Area Closeup. I wrote it up as the main, it had more action anyway.

(Side note: The Sheik/Moose match was "interesting" to say the least. Sheik ran, Moose chased him. No contact. Sheik still has his flowing robe on and is carrying his belt. This goes on a bit, then Sheik gets caught and brought back in to a corner where Moose starts choking him with his robe or headdress. The ref is counting Moose, and Sheik decides it's time to throw the fire. The ref quickly turns to Creatchman, who was on the apron, Moose falls back in "pain" and Sheik takes off his robe and pins Moose. It was all quick enough much of the audience probably didn't catch what happened. Ah, but the old TV camera. And channel 6 was real keen to show off their new slo mo. And boy did they. And in slo mo it was very apparent the fireball missed by a good foot, plus the fact the ref was staring right at it. And did they slo mo it just once? No kids, they showed it over and over 4 or 5 times. It was one time Sam was speechless. And then when they dumped out, they had a freeze frame of the fire in mid air as Moose was falling back. Another thing to notice is how many times the Valiants worked that night. Jimmy's bout with Christy was right before the main, he finished one bout then right back out. Dick of course had built the WWA around the two, so he wanted them on the tube every week, but it does reveal the weakness of using your main house to tape TV with.)

In 1977, this had NEVER been seen before, at least not in these parts. There wasn't a lot of blood for this, it just looked like Dick and Ivan beat the hell out of each other. And Dick sold his rear off in this one. If you made a Dick the Bruiser highlight collection (and perhaps an Ivan Koloff one, too), this one would have to be in it. An amazing peformance by both men.
